Practice Exchange

The next Practice Exchange is on Thursday 4th February. More information can be found on the Practice Exchange

Practice Exchange

The Practice Exchange provides an opportunity for a group to meet to talk about a team or an individual’s work with a particular case, their experience of practice, or to consider a particular theme. The group will include clinicians and relevant professionals, a member of the managed clinical network team and sometimes members of the family involved. Video-conferencing allows clinicians from around Scotland to participate in presentation and discussion.

The Practice Exchange aims to facilitate and promote information sharing between clinicians and other relevant professionals across Scotland. We want you to be able to use Practice Exchange meetings to help you in your clinical practice and also to form links with other clinicians who deal with similar cases.

Successful Practice Exchanges have already taken place covering issues such as eating problems, autism, communication issues and learning disabilities.  We have been able to:

We are particularly interested in experience with children presenting problems at younger ages, where the challenges may be different from those arising in adolescence. Such discussions will be about the realities of managing and dealing with cases, not necessarily about ideal practice!
In particular, we are looking for teams or clinicians to present a case, case vignette or aspect of case management relating to a child up to 12, one of that smaller number of children whose case is difficult to manage for whatever reason.  Amongst other things complexity of the case may have to do with severity, co-occurring psychiatric, medical or social difficulty, systems or resources.

It will be important for the family’s views to be represented. This might be done in a number of ways: the family may wish to be present for all or part of the practice exchange or they may wish a particular person to give their point of view.  Whichever, the family needs to be aware of and to have given consent for the practice exchange discussion.

Rules of confidentiality apply and case discussion will not be minuted, however, over time we will be gathering from such discussions:

The principal central sites are Telemedicine Room, Yorkhill and Lauriston Building, Edinburgh. There is sufficient capacity for discussion to include 4 sites, including the base and we have been delighted in the past to have services dialling in from as far afield as Shetland and Stranraer.

For more on dates and venues please contact the MCN Office.

If you are intending to attend and in particular if you have a case to present please contact , Michael Durkan, Network Administrator  Michael.Durkan@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

We hope to hear from you soon.
